What are Self Levelling Pedestals?

Many modern commercial spaces require flexible flooring solutions to compensate for sloping or uneven substrate. Floors that can absorb structural movement, conceal utilities and provide efficient ventilation and drainage offer builders and architects the opportunity to incorporate both style and functionality into their designs.

Self-levelling pedestal floors are the ideal solution, with their unique ability to deliver a perfectly level floor.

Each pedestal is constructed from incredibly strong composite materials which allow it to support almost any type of flooring including tiles, pavers, porcelain, timber, granite, marble and precast concrete.

Self-levelling and fully adjustable, floor pedestals can be screwed up or down, depending on the slope of the surface it sits on, to create a perfectly flat floor overhead.

Self-levelling pedestals can compensate for a substrate fall of up to 5% and they come with an anti-slip and anti-noise bi-component head which can reduce sound impact by up to 25dB.

The void they create between the floor and the substrate also circulates air, which extends the life of the waterproofing membrane and improves heat insulation.

This void is also ideal for concealing plumbing and electrical cables and provides easy access if inspection or maintenance is required.

A good example of a self-levelling pedestal is the SE Series from Eterno Ivica. This provides an effective solution to sloping installation surfaces thanks to its swivelling head. This head can automatically compensate for any gradient up to 5% and can be adjusted from above post-installation to level and align the entire floor surface.

What types of surfaces should you use self-levelling pedestals for?

At KEKSIÄ, we offer Eterno Ivica self-levelling pedestal flooring solutions for a range of applications and surfaces;

  1. Office spaces

Our pedestal flooring is ideal for offices with lots of wiring and cables to deploy. The space beneath the floor can store it out of sight where it can’t be tripped over. Ventilation ducting can also be deployed in data centres to cool constantly-running servers.

KEKSIÄ offers several flooring options for corporate spaces including the SE Series, with its swivelling self-levelling head and the NM Series, with a fixed head that can be adjusted to the millimetre in height.

  1. Outdoor decks

Our pedestal solution can be used to raise a deck above a substrate such as ground or concrete, creating a space underneath for plumbing, electrical, airflow and drainage. It can be erected faster than a traditional deck and a level surface can be achieved, even on sloping or uneven ground.

At KEKSIÄ, our wood deck system can be deployed quickly and easily using either our SE, NM or low-height Star T Series pedestal to create a stable and perfectly level outdoor deck.

  1. Balconies

Our systems are ideal for balconies, where drainage can be a problem. A raised tile floor above a balcony substrate will prevent moisture build up and extend the life of the waterproofing membrane. The gaps between the tiles will also provide fast, effective drainage.

At KEKSIÄ, our SE, NM and Star T pedestals are all suitable for balcony applications and can quickly and easily compensate for any drainage slope in the substrate.

  1. Sloping surfaces

Our pedestal systems can be used to correct slopes of up to 5% and create a perfectly level floor. They can also be used to create slopes where required, such as in wheelchair accessible ramps.

At KEKSIÄ, we have a pedestal system for almost every slope, from the low-height adjustment of the Star T Series to the NM Series with its Twist Slope Compensator disc to the fully self levelling SE Series, to allow for drainage slopes in substrate.
